Though officially formed as recently as the summer of 2017, the roots of Beaconsfield Town FC stretch back over a century. The club evolved from Beaconsfield SYCOB, founded in 1994 following a merger between Beaconsfield United and Slough Youth Centre Old Boys (hence the “SYCOB” in the name).
Beaconsfield United dated back to 1921, itself a merger of two local teams, while Slough Youth Centre first fielded a football team in 1938. With Slough Youth Centre Old Boys unable to progress due to a lack of ground provisions and United struggling on and off the field, the decision was taken to amalgamate the two clubs—and so Beaconsfield SYCOB was born.
Early Years and League Success
Initially playing in the London Spartan Premier Division under Chairman Fred Deanus, Beaconsfield SYCOB enjoyed a series of top-five finishes before winning the league in 2000/01 under Simon Delahunty. Promotion was denied due to technicalities over the lease, but after three more seasons in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division, SYCOB won the league again in 2003/04, earning promotion to the Southern Football League (Division One East).
The Rams made solid progress at Step 4, competing in three different divisions over three seasons before relegation in 2006/07. A swift revival followed under ex-player Jamie Jarvis and Peter Scott, who guided the team to a remarkable treble—winning the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division, the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Trophy, and the Premier Division League Cup.
Ups and Downs
Promoted to Division 1 South & West, the club finished fourth and reached the play-offs before losing to AFC Totton. A move to the Southern League Midland Division in 2009/10 brought managerial changes and mixed fortunes, culminating in a bottom-place finish in 2010/11. A league restructure spared relegation, and under Byron Walton, the Rams bounced back, finishing fifth in 2011/12 and reaching the play-off final. Another fifth-place finish followed in 2012/13, capped by a Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup win over Chesham United.
Gary Meakin took charge just days before the 2013/14 season with only five players signed, yet guided the team to eighth place and a cup quarter-final. Partnerships with FAB Academy shaped the 2014–16 seasons, while 2016/17 saw a respectable FA Cup run to the Fourth Qualifying Round.
The Modern Era
The summer of 2017 marked a new chapter as the club rebranded to Beaconsfield Town FC, with Gary Meakin returning as manager and Chris Coyle as Chairman. A near-complete squad rebuild paid off spectacularly—the Rams clinched the Evo-Stik League South, East title on the final day of the 2017/18 season, earning promotion to Step 3 for the first time. Competing in the Southern League Premier South, the club finished a credible 12th and reached the FA Trophy First Round, losing to eventual finalists Leyton Orient.
The truncated 2019/20 season saw the launch of an Academy and Under-18 team, laying the foundations for future growth. In 2021, the club unveiled its FIFA-approved 3G pitch and refurbished Holloways Park, creating a modern hub for football and community events.
