FLEET GIVE RAMS THE BLUES

FLEET TOWN 2 BEACONSFIELD TOWN FC 1

A below par performance from Beaconsfield enabled hosts Fleet Town to come from behind and claim all three points.

The Rams started well enough, Spencer Maw nearly forcing an own goal on two minutes as a Fleet defender sliced his cross just over the bar. However, with some neat passing football Beaconsfield took the lead on six minutes when Nathan Minhas set up Ollie McCoy who kept his composure to slot past Ryan Pryce in the Fleet goal.

The home side soon got into their stride, however, with Pat Cox going close with a chipped effort on 16 minutes and Rams keeper Sam Bunting forced into a great double save from Simba Mlambo on 20 minutes. Dan Williamson for Fleet hit The Rams bar on 21 minutes whilst Dan Rousell sent a header just over for The Blues four minutes later.

Beaconsfield did have the odd moment, particularly in the 27th minute when a great mazy run through the Fleet defence by Ryan Hill deserved a lot better the final overplay and goal kick it produced.

The second half started with McCoy having a glorious chance on 47 minutes to put The Rams two goals up but he was denied by a fine stop by Pryce. This spurred Fleet on and sixty seconds later Pat Cox levelled the scores with a tap in after Bunting had parried a Ben White shot against the post.

Bunting made further good saves from Mlambo in the 54th and 61st minutes as Fleet moved up a gear and Beaconsfield seemed to lose their shape. After Nathan Minhas was thwarted by Pryce, Fleet took the lead - overplaying in The Rams midfield in the 63rd minute allowed The Blues to break and Cox grabbed a (deserved) second.

McCoy saw another effort well saved by Pryce on 80 minutes after some good Beaconsfield build up play but generally The Rams were second best for most of the second half. Late half chances for Guri Demuria and Josh Dillon came to nothing and Beaconsfield left Calthorpe Park with only a place in the bottom three to show for their efforts.

These are the sort of games The Rams really need to get something out of if they are to climb away from the relegation area. Whilst the FA Cup run is great Beaconsfield really can't afford to take their eye off the ball in the League.

Come On You Rams!
