LAST MINUTE HEARTACHE FOR THE RAMS

DAVENTRY TOWN 1 BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 0

For the second game running SYCOB conceded a late goal to miss out on improving their points tally. Against Royston it was an injury time penalty that meant The Rams took away one instead of three points and against league leaders Daventry Town it was a last minute header that denied ten man Beaconsfield a deserved share of the spoils to return home with nothing to show for their efforts.

With influential captain Yiadom Yeboah missing with a toe injury SYCOB gave a debut to Brad Hewitt and he made a solid, hard working start to his Rams career. In truth the first half saw Daventry pepper the SYCOB goal with a 'shoot on sight' policy and keeper James Reading, whilst not having to do anything spectacular, was certainly the busier of the two goalies.

Five minutes into the second half and Jon Munday, already booked in the first, caught a Daventry striker late and left (over fussy) referee Kevin Seckington little option but to send him off. This seemed to spur SYCOB into action and they played a lot better with ten men in the second half - just like Royston had done against The Rams five days earlier.

Aaron Lansiquot had a couple of runs and shots and when Zak Joseph was actually given the ball he usually caused some confusion in an otherwise solid Daventry defence that The Rams might have had better results against if they'd got the ball on the ground and run at them.

Whilst The Rams looked more promising it was 'Davo' who looked more likely to score and James Reading was once again the busier of the two No.1's. Just when it seemed the battling ten men had done enough to sneak a point, up popped substitute Ryan Howell to power home a header from a corner in the 89th minute much to the relief of the Daventry bench who had been getting increasingly frustrated at not been able to breakdown the SYCOB Ten.

The win made it seven out of seven for Daventry but if they are - at present - the best team in the division then The Rams are not far behind. Once we get a settled starting 11 the results and points will surely come.

Come On You Rams!
