RAMS STOP SAINTS SAINTS MARCHING ON

ST.IVES TOWN 2 BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 2

A goal in the third minute of injury time denied SYCOB all three points at the Pro Edge Arena. However, it's a sign of how well the young team is gelling that after only three games a point from an away fixture at an experienced St. Ives Town is seen as two dropped rather than one gained.

In truth St. Ives should have been home and dry before half time but Man Of The Match Sam Bunting, the SYCOB keeper, kept highly presentable chances from Jon Stead, Karl Gibbs, Will Fordham and the wonderfully named Ben Seymour-Shove from notching up a score for the hosts whilst SYCOB rarely troubled St. Ives apart from a half hearted shout for a penalty.

Seven minutes into the second half and the pressure finally told as Gibbs scored for the hosts. St. Ives then seemed content to sit on the lead rather than pressing for a second and this allowed The Rams to regroup and two goals in four minutes turned the game on its head.

On 77 minutes Omari Patrick fired in an unstoppable strike from 18 yards out and then on 81 minutes his strike partner Aaron Berry chipped the ball over McLaughlin in the Saints goal to chalk up his third goal in as many games in his maiden season for SYCOB.

A clearly stunned home team then piled on the pressure and only some desperate last ditch defending and the outstanding Bunting kept the hosts at bay. However, the points were eventually (fairly) shared  when in in the 93rd minute Fordham was left unmarked from a corner and planted a header into The Rams net.

Four points out of six from two awkward away games is a good return for a young Rams side still finding its feet at this higher level. As they gather more experience they'll be able to turn draws into wins and start climbing the Central Division table.
