SYCOB OUT OF LUCK IN BERKS & BUCKS CUP

BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 0 CHESHAM UNITED 1

If Lady Luck had been smiling on The Rams they would have retained the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup - the woodwork and some incredible near misses prevented them from doing so, whilst The Generals had a wayward shot deflected past a stranded James Reading to gain revenge for their defeat by SYCOB in the previous season final.

As early as the first minute Jon-Jo Bates broke away and put a shot just over the Chesham bar and eight minutes later Zak Joseph saw a goal bound effort deflected for a corner. Tom O' Regan, impressive all night, had the first of many runs and shots in the 11th minute, only to find the side netting. Chesham always looked dangerous on the break and Rams stopper James Reading dived bravely at the feet of Bruce Wilson on twenty minutes and also made a stunning save ten minutes later from a well worked Chesham move.

Zak, James McCluskey (with one cleared off the line) and Jon-Jo all had near misses especially Zak in the 39th minute when his effort somehow trickled wide with all in the ground sure it was going to go in. It was one of those nights!

Just as though the two teams would go in level at half time, Lady (no) Luck interfered and a Chris Dillon shot took a wicked deflection to wrong foot Reading and zip into The Rams net. Bang on half time as well.

The Rams continued to go at Chesham from the moment the second 45 kicked off, O' Regan in particular tormenting his marker Danny Braithwaite. Macca had a free kick saved on five minutes, Nathan Webb saw a shot canon off the crossbar sixty seconds later and Haydn Dodge in the Chesham goal (an ex-Ram) made a great save from McCluskey on twenty minutes. Ryan Phillips put in some good crosses that were literally inches from connecting with a SYCOB boot - all across the team the players harried Chesham, chased down balls and really made a good impression on their higher placed opponents.

Alas, for all their effort in the constant drizzly rain, SYCOB could not convert any of their chances and Chesham were mighty relieved to hear the final whistle as they knew they had been in a game that they could so easily have lost.

The players, the management, the back room staff and all the supporters can be mighty proud of a great performance that only enhanced the reputation of our 'little club', Beaconsfield SYCOB.
