Young Rams earn big away draw while 1st team fall at home

Beaconsfield Town 1st 0-4 Sholing Thatcham Town Kingfishers 1-1 Beaconsfield Devs

Annie O'Connor's clinical first-half strike earns the Women's Development team their first point of the season away to Thatcham Town Kingfishers while the first team fell in the last eighteen minutes after largely being the better side in a very frustrating afternoon at home.

First up the devs, after a difficult start to the 2026/27 campaign, Beaconsfield Town Women's Development team took on their first away test of the season as they travelled west to face Thatcham Town Kingfishers. The hosts had picked up three points away at Finchampstead Ladies' Reserves in mid-September but had lost their last two outings by significant margins.

Despite possessing a squad of just 13 (including two goalkeepers!), Beaconsfield started brightly and took the lead in the 15th minute. Aamani Chopra had put the opposition defenders under constant pressure in the opening phases and her hard work eventually paid off when the Rams split open the Thatcham backline to release O'Connor through on goal. With the back four retreating, she was able to unleash a powerful strike on goal that flashed past the keeper and into the back of the net!

Thatcham had their moments in the first half and, despite levelling the score, could easily have gone ahead if not for a string of magnificent saves from Alex Clark in the Beaconsfield goal. In the second half, Sarah Orojie replicated those cat-like reflexes to keep the sides level, before Clark stepped up outfield, contributing not just in defence, but pushing into both midfield and attack to help her side remain in the fight.

It was an attritional second forty-five from both sides as neither outfit was able to pull in front. Liena Lukina and Helena Jamarek chased every loose ball in midfield while Isla McDonald and Niamh Kearney marshalled the back line. There was a late chance for Thatcham, but thankfully it came crashing off the crossbar and not long after the referee blew for the final whistle.

While perhaps not a perfect performance, Beaconsfield worked tirelessly for the full ninety minutes and fully merited a point away from home!

Back at Holloways Park, Todd and her side played very well for most of the game, carving opportunities for Kimble, Zu, Nolan and Bixbey during the first 70 minutes.

Back at the other end, keeper Reid and her defence had everything in hand, with the former making a great one-on-one save in the 2nd half. Even just before the game took a turn, Skipper for the day Kimble had maybe the best chance of the day; surely a goal was coming for the Rams.

However, over a poor last 18 minutes, the visitors scored four times and killed the game. It's safe to say the side was shell-shocked but will take plenty of good points from the first 70 minutes.
