Beaconsfield Town made it 3 cups in 3 seasons in the Berks and Bucks under 18 cup, with a penalty shootout win over Chesham United.
A strong first 45 minutes from Chesham meant Beaconsfield had to defend for large periods and were limited to chances on the counterattack. Chesham had a couple of good efforts but were kept out by great saves by Beaconsfield keeper Matt Keane. Chesham had an appeal for a penalty, but it was waved away by the referee who booked the player for a dive. Beaconsfield had a good chance to take the lead before the break with Sam Wraith forcing Chesham’s Charlie Smith into a fine save to keep the game tied at 0-0 entering the break.
Beaconsfield came out for the 2nd half looking for a fast start, getting forwards well and creating chances, but lacking the finishing touch to take the lead. In what was an extremely tight final it looked like a single goal could win it. Both teams dug in well when needed and matched each other to see the game out as a 0-0 draw and send the final to a penalty shootout.
Beaconsfield showed their experience in the shootout, scoring all 4 of their penalties, with Keane in goal winning them the cup with 2 fantastic saves. Beaconsfield won the shootout 4-1, with captain Liam Jenkins scoring the winning penalty.
