The Buffalos were back in action on Sunday morning, playing their first competitive game of the 2026/27 season against King George V in the Premier Division of the High Wycombe Sunday Football Combination (HWSFC).

Following a successful promotion from Division 2, the Buffalos began their pre-season preparations for the new campaign back in late July, training twice a week throughout the month of August. They also played four friendly fixtures, beating both FC Beaconsfield and Bourne End United II, drawing 3-3 with Hazlemere Sports Wanderers, and losing 3-2 to Marlow Youth.

Sunday saw them return to Wooburn Green Lane Sports Field to host a familiar opponent in King George V, who they drew 2-2 against in their final league game last season. The Buffalos squad featured four debutants, with both Farzad Zaker-Zadeh and Joshua Morris featuring in the starting eleven while Maximus Rees and Guy Saffman made their entrance from the bench. Fin Palethorpe captained the side as they headed into their fourth season in the HWSFC.

A fast start was capitalised on by a brilliant chipped finish from Martin Filipov. The #29 was put through on goal by Tom Stables and with an onrushing goalkeeper, he smartly lofted the ball over his head and into the back of the net. The Buffalos would continue to dominate the opening phases of the game and an absolute wonder strike from Joe Martin, who had bossed the midfield in the first half, made it 2-0 in the 17th minute. Tom topped it off with a precise finish into the bottom corner and it would be fair to say they were cruising come the half-time break.

Unfortunately, the Buffalos were unable to replicate such a positive display in the second half and while some strong stops from Matt Eteen kept the visitors out for a period of time, King George V grabbed one back in the 68th minute. Despite several subsitutions, there was little improvement and King George V found another 10 minutes later to bring themselves within one. This prompted a nervy end to the contest but thankfully a resilient eam effort in the final 15mins enabled the lads to hang on in there and hold out for all three points.

Massive credit to both Guy and Josh for making their debuts in defence and also to Eraldo Semanaj who made some brilliant goal-saving blocks. While victory by a greater margin would've been preferable, the Buffalos will no doubt be pleased with a winning start to the campaign!
