Having held on for all three points at home to King George V last week, the Buffalos returned to Holloways Park on Sunday to host Hazlemere Sports Wanderers in the HWSFC Premier Division. The two sides last met in early August at the start of pre-season, with an end-to-end game ending in a 3-3 draw!

Hazlemere came into this one having also won their opening game of the season, scoring a dramatic late winner against Bourne End United to record a 2-1 victory. It meant both sides had the chance to go top with a win and it was the Buffalos who started the stronger of the two sides, controlling the opening proceedings as Hazlemere appeared content with soaking up pressure and waiting for an opportunity on the break.

The first real opportunity of the match fell to Martin Filipov, whose effort was remarkably stopped by the Hazlemere goalkeeper. Joshua Morris had set Joe Martin free down the right-hand side and his delicious cross was put on a plate for Filipov to convert but somehow he was denied. Thankfully, the Buffalos were not discouraged and they eventually found the opener in the 42nd minute as a Luke Smith cross was clinically nodded in by Jordan Alleyne-Angell.

In truth, the Buffalos should've led by two or three at the half-time break but they failed to capitalise on several well-worked attacks. Hazlemere, meanwhile, would be grateful to trail by just the one and their performance levels significantly improved in the second-half.

A potential penalty shout for the visitors was waved away by referee, Jim Hey, and then a straight red was handed to Hazlemere midfielder, Alex Dunn, for a reckless challenge on Keiran Kurd. Perhaps slightly harsh, Hazlemere's frustrations would grow further as their star player, Michael Ditty, was shown a second yellow for 'diving' inside the box and therefore dismissed to leave the visitors with just 9 men.

Rather than seeing out the contest with a two-man advantage, a tiring Buffalos side allowed Hazlemere to press forward and snatch a late equaliser. In unfortunate circumstances, a slippery ball would evade Matt Eteen's clasp and ricochet back off Tom Stables into an empty net to allow Hazlemere a share of the points.
