SYCOB came away from the Pakex Stadium empty handed and in the process chalked up a third consecutive league defeat. However, unlike the previous games against Kettering Town and Uxbridge where they arguably deserved a point, against Potters Bar Town they were well and truly beaten and but for some wasteful finishing the margin of defeat could have been considerably higher.
The Rams went behind on five minutes after a needlessly conceded free kick was smashed home by Matt Clifford. The home team had all the early play and should have extended their lead on the quarter hour mark when the impressive Tom Laxton volleyed just over. On 19 minutes they did go further ahead when SYCOB lost the ball in midfield and allowed Josh Hutchinson to run on and finish in some style.
The first chance for SYCOB came on 34 minutes and actually resulted in a goal, a corner by Lee Togwell headed home powerfully by Tom Willment. This was however a rare positive for The Rams as on thirty nine minutes the SYCOB defence was undone by a smart back heal which fell to Lamar Simpson who crossed for James Ewington to slot home. Half time, 3-1 to The Scholars.
The second half started with Potters Bar Chris Doyle hitting the SYCOB post straight from the kick off as The Rams defence seemed to be still in the dressing room. Even a short break for a heavy hailstone chucking thunderstorm failed to wake up Beaconsfield as The Scholars made and missed good chances in the 57th and 63rd minutes whilst Sam Bunting had to be alert to keep out an effort from Laxton on 64 minutes. Sixty seconds later he could do nothing about an excellent finish from Hutchinson and a minute after Potters Bar going 4-1 up Bunting was grateful that Doyle didn't have his goal scoring boots on as he shot wide.
A great through ball by Lee Togwell in the 68th minute set up Lee Thompson to hit home and bring the score to a more respectable 4-2. Potters Bar however could have had four more with Simpson, Ewington and Hutchinson all having good opportunities to add to their Goals For column. Luckily for The Rams they didn't take them!
With Jon Munday suspended, Charlie Hill and Omari Patrick missing, and Zak Martin and Tom Gant injured you could argue that The Rams didn't have a full team out. The sooner SYCOB can get back to a first choice eleven the better as the fixtures are coming thick and fast and points need to be gained to avoid being cut adrift.
