A HOME POINT AT LAST!
BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 1 GODALMING TOWN 1
SYCOB and Godalming Town met for the third time this season with The G's knowing that a win would take them to second in the Central Division. That they were grateful to escape with a draw shows how much The Rams have improved and on this form they should be able to battle their way out of the relegation area.
Aaron Couch, recently signed from Burnham, made his (second) debut and could have opened the scoring on 20 minutes after a good run and shot that was saved by Zaki Oualah in the Godalming goal. As it was it was The G's who opened the scoring when a ball over the top of The Rams defence was collected by Darren Wheeler and he led the SYCOB defence a merry dance before shooting past Sam Bunting, very much against the run of paly it has to be said.
The second half again saw SYCOB dominating their higher placed opponents and periods of The Rams play belied their lowly league position though the final pass was often missing or the wrong option was taken and Oualah was rarely troubled. He was beaten on 61 minutes, though, when a shot by Couch somehow went under the keepers body to put SYCOB, deservedly, back on level terms. The evenly matched teams then traded neat passages of play but without any real cutting edge, Lee Togwell's shot on 72 minutes the nearest The Rams came to a winner.
Overall this was a much improved performance by SYCOB and one hopefully that will signal a change of fortune - a few experienced heads like Tom Willment, Lee Togwell, Aaron Couch and Johnny Gray have helped to balance the youth of the likes of Alex Murray, Tom Gant and Ollie Jones and it's also good to note that for once Sam Bunting wasn't The Rams Man Of The Match!
