CROWS PICK OFF RAMS TO GO TOP

ROYSTON TOWN 4 BEACONSFIELD TOWN FC 1

Royston Town moved to the summit of the Evo Stik Southern Central Division with this comfortable victory over a much changed Beaconsfield team. Having lost in the Play Offs twice, this season will surely be third time lucky for The Crows to earn promotion.

The highly experienced John Frendo proved to be a handful all night and he produced the first chance of note on 18 minutes when he spun his marker and shot just wide. Rams No.1 Sam Bunting, Beaconsfield's Man Of The Match, made the first of a string of fine saves a minute later from a Ryan Ingrey shot and sixty seconds after that Frendo saw a header crash against the Beaconsfield post.

The busy Josh Castiglione went close for The Crows on 28 minutes whilst on 42 minutes Frendo saw his goal bound shot well saved by Bunting. On the stroke of half time, however, against the run of play, the impressive Harry Mepham gave Beaconsfield the lead when a fine run ended with him curling a beauty past a previously unemployed Joe Welch in the Royston goal (much to the delight of the "Beaconsfield Massive", err, President Dave, the Captain and Josh Gibbens mum!)

Royston came out early and fired up for the second half and within five minutes they had their equaliser. A shot by Ryan Towner was palmed away by Bunting but Adam Murray was first to react and poked the ball home. The Crows really ramped up the pressure and Sam had to make two fine reaction saves on 52 minutes to keep them at bay whilst a lone shot by Mepham on 53 minutes was the only bit of respite for The Rams defence.

On 62 minutes Crows play maker Scott Bridges made the most of Beaconsfield's inability to clear their lines to shoot home after a knock down from Murray. The Royston siege on The Rams goal continued on 65 minutes when Frendo hit the post with an effort but four minutes later a clever back heal from the frontman set up Josh Castiglione to fire home number 3.

To their credit the mix and match Beaconsfield line up continued to play decent football though chances were very much at a premium, a Callum Bunting header on 87 minutes the nearest they got to reducing the arrears. Frendo, however, wasn't finished and on 90 minutes he completed a fine Royston move to make the score line 4-1 and put his side top of the league.

On the plus side for Beaconsfield it was good to see Callum Bunting and Harry Tucker both back from lengthy injuries and Harry Mepham scoring a memorable first goal for The Rams. Apart from a knock to Tim Wohlfiel they finished injury free so should have a full squad to choose from for the impending FA Cup tie against Brackley Town.
