ROYSTON TOWN 3 BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 1
SYCOB fell to their third consecutive league defeat with a loss against fellow Play Off hopefuls Royston Town as a devastating five minutes at the start of the second half left The Rams with a mountain to climb.
A much changed line up saw winger Jack Hutchinson at right back, forward Aaron Morgan at left back in place of the suspended Craig Carby, Lee Grant at centre half due to the late withdrawal of Reece York, AJ wearing No.10 and top scorer Zak Joseph unavailable due to college commitments. Nonetheless they worked well as a team in the first half and the first twenty minutes or so saw both sides 'test the water' against the other.
John Christian hit one just over on 19 minutes but two minutes later, following a back pass, the normally reliable James Reading got himself in a pickle and was robbed by a Crows forward who passed to Craig Hammond for a simple tap in. The Rams didn't let their heads drop though and on 28 minutes they were back on level terms when a shot by Tom O'Regan was parried by Nick Thompson into the path of AJ who slotted home calmly enough.
The Rams in fact had two other good chances towards the end of the first half with Nathan Webb having a shot deflect into the keepers grateful arms and just before that a bout of ping pong in the Royston six yard area just couldn't be prodded home. 1-1 at half time a fair reflection on the game but SYCOB having a good reason to feel confident for the second 45.
Sixty seconds in the second period and a run by the tricky Reece Dobson saw the winger clipped by Aaron Morgan and Jack Bradshaw gave Reading no chance from the resulting penalty. Four minutes later it was game over as Dobson made the most of a lucky bounce and set up Rob Mason and The Crows top scorer finished in some style.
The Rams continued to press Royston with Aaron Morgan having a header cleared off the line in the 57th minute and five minutes later O'Regan place a free kick just wide. AJ also had a header just over on 85 minutes but a solid Royston back four pretty much coped with all SYCOB could throw at them.
The introduction of new boy Robert Ursell was a plus point for The Rams and the experienced midfielder looks like a good addition to the squad. Get the full team back and The Rams should end their losing streak, hopefully with a victory away at Aylsebury in the heir next match.
Come On You Rams!
