CUP OF WOE FOR RAMS

Blues too strong for SYCOB

It was always going to be a tough ask for a constantly evolving SYCOB team to get a result against Burnham in the FA Cup and so it was to prove but not before The Rams gave their higher league local rivals a bit of a scare!

Both teams started cagily and the first quarter of an hour passed with The Rams and The Blues cancelling each others moves out. However, on the stroke of fifteen minutes, Zak Joseph plucked a long ball from defence out of the air, turned and placed a curling shot past Watkins in the Burnham goal. 1-0 to The Rams!

It didn't take Burnham long to get back on level terms as, after a constant bout of pressure and one scrambled goal line save from SYCOB's James Reading, highly rated Blues striker Danny Burnell pounced on a scuffed Beaconsfield clearance and steered the ball home on 25 minutes.

The remainder of the first period saw half chances come and go for both teams who were probably each content to go in at half time on level pegging.

Four minutes into the second half and the ever dangerous Zak Joseph was tripped in the Burnham box for a stonewall penalty which was duly dispatched by Bilal Butt. 50 minutes gone and 2-1 to The Rams but that really was as good as it got for SYCOB as Burnham seemed to go up another gear.

A free kick from a promising position just outside the Burnham box for The Rams on 58 minutes was completely mucked up and less than thirty seconds later Ryan Blake broke away and set up John Gray to smash the ball home. Two minutes later, from a corner, and it was 3-2 to Burnham as Lewis Driver headed home.

SYCOB just couldn't seem to hold onto the ball for any long periods whilst Burnham always looked dangerous on the break, particularly with ex Rams starlet Ryan Upward pulling the midfield strings. One such break saw a Burnham player upended in the Rams box and on 84 minutes substitute James Dobson slammed home the resulting penalty despite the best efforts of James Reading. 4-2 and it was game set and match to Burnham.

The Rams should not feel too disheartened at the defeat as for 50 minutes they at least matched their higher ranked opponents. Learn from the odd silly mistake and these type of defeats will become less frequent - hopefully starting with the next match, home to Royston Town.
