LEIGHTON DO DOUBLE OVER THE RAMS

BEACONSFIELD TOWN FC 0 LEIGHTON TOWN 2

A very poor performance by The Rams saw lowly visitors Leighton Town deservedly claim all three points and a league double over their hosts.

Beaconsfield should have taken the lead on 15 minutes when Jack McKnight set up Callum Bunting but the strikers effort was weak and easily dealt with by Bradley Kirkwood in the Leighton goal. Ten minutes later Guri Demuria put a header wide from a corner but in truth Beaconsfield were struggling to really get into any sort of rhythm.

They were made to pay on 35 minutes when a slip in defence allowed Leighton a shot on goal which Sam Bunting parried but only as far as Ben Gallant and the prolific striker doesn't pass up those sort of opportunities and calmly slotted the ball home.

On the stroke of half time Leighton doubled their advantage as Beaconsfield's defence fell asleep and Aaron McKee hit a beauty from the edge of the area that flew past Bunting.

The early second period saw a header from Guri go just wide and a shot from Aaron Minhas saved by Kirkwood but generally The Reds easily dealt with the little threatening penetration Beaconsfield attempted.

The Rams should have pulled a goal back on 78 minutes when Aaron Berry was one on one with Kirkwood but the sub never looked confident and his poor effort failed to trouble the score board.

Indeed it was Leighton who nearly scored when an 87th minute free kick by Craig Maisiri brought out a good save from Bunting whilst at the other end the impressive Ryan Haugh forced a good block out of Kirkwood in the very last minute.

A week that offered the possibility of wins against the leagues two basement teams ended with just a single point and The Rams chance of a Play Off place now only a remote possibility. With ten more games to go, however, there is still lots to play for.
