NINE MAN RAMS BEATEN BY MOLES

AYLESBURY 4 BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 2

A crazy five minute spell just before half time involving a penalty, a harsh sending off and some kamikaze defending put paid to SYCOB's hopes of pulling off a positive result at high flying Aylesbury.

The Rams, buoyed by their impressive win over Aylesbury United a week previous, started well and nearly went ahead on ten minutes when a pass by Lee Togwell was knocked back by Aaron Couch to Aaron Berry who's header smashed against The Moles bar. Two minutes later The Rams did take the lead when an Ollie Jones corner caused confusion in the Aylesbury box before falling to Guram Guramishvilli to nod over the line.

Aaron Berry also saw a neat long range chip almost catch out James Weatherill in The Moles goal as The Rams pretty much dominated the first twenty minutes.  The Moles, however, are not in the Play Off zone without reason and they started to put together some good passages of possession with Sonny French and Aston Goss at the heart of most of them.

Just as it looked as though Andy Hurley's half time team talk was to be about protecting a one nil lead the game was turned on it's head - on 39 minutes SYCOB keeper Sam Bunting caught Lynton Goss just inside the area and the resulting penalty was dispatched by ex-Ram Brian Haule. Two minutes later the lively French was given far too much space in The Rams area and he sent his shot whizzing past Bunting. Then, on 44 minutes, Guramishvilli was adjudged to have pulled back Lynton Goss and was shown a straight red card - harshly in the view of most people - and just as it seemed  as if it couldn't get any worse, Aston Goss was left unmarked in The Rams area and duly made it 3-1. A totally different team talk for Andy now!

Whatever he said obviously had the desired effect as within two minutes of the restart Aaron Couch took advantage of a mistake in The Moles defence to fire home and make it 3-2. The Rams to their credit harried and hassled their hosts but without ever really worrying Weatherill and were always vulnerable to swift  counter attacks and Haule and French both tested Bunting. As the game entered the final stages Aylesbury hit the bar before been awarded a second penalty when Bunting brought down Gareth Price and so received his second yellow card of the game. Couchy went in goal but was powerless to prevent Price giving Aylesbury a 4-2 victory.

For the early periods of the game SYCOB were the equal of their higher placed opponents - however The Moles more clinical finishing and better decision making was a major difference. The Rams can't continue to lose games like this or look for someone or something to blame. They need to start producing positive results and let's hope it begins with the next game, home to Northwood.

Come On You Rams!
