NINE MAN RUGBY TOO STRONG FOR RAMS

BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 1 RUGBY TOWN 2

SYCOB's wretched run of form continued as they were beaten by a last gasp goal from a Rugby team down to nine men though in truth The Valley should have had the game won well before they had two players sent off.

As early as the third minute Rams keeper Sam Bunting made the first of numerous quality saves as he denied an effort by David Kolodynski. SYCOB's first effort of note came on twelve minutes when Ollie Jones forced a save from Richard Morris and the keeper saved well sixty seconds later from a deflected shot by Lee Togwell. Rugby were never really in trouble though and Bunting made good stops from Kolodynski and Will Grocutt before disaster struck on 43 minutes when a run and scuffed cross by Seb Lake-Gaskin was deflected past Bunting by the unfortunate Alex Murray to gift Rugby a 1-0 half time lead.

The Rams - with Denilson Vincente and Jed De Souza replacing Lee Thompson and Jae Kim - came out for the second half with a sense of determination and should have scored just sixty seconds after the restart but the out of form Aaron Berry shot over the bar after good work by Ollie Jones had created the chance. SYCOB did get back on level pegging on 52 minutes when Rugby's Ben George used some strong arm tactics on Jones that ref Andrew Dine deemed as violent conduct and sent the Rugby No.2 off and awarded The Rams a penalty which was duly dispatched by Alex Murray.

If anything the loss of a man meant Rugby upped their tempo and on 65 minutes earnt a penalty of their own after some shirt tugging in The Rams area. For the second game in succession, however, Bunting guessed correctly and saved the spot kick and he also made a fine save from the resulting corner. Rugby then saw shots cannon off the bar on 71 and 76 minutes before Omari Patrick for The Rams shot into the side netting on 80 minutes when a pull back might have been more beneficial for his team.

On 88 minutes Rugby's Sam Youngs was dismissed after collecting two yellows in as many minutes but even this failed to dampen The Valleys spirits and following SYCOB's inability to clear their area after a (wrongly awarded) corner Alex Gudger poked home the lose ball to spark scenes of great joy amongst the noisy Rugby faithful.

Six home league games have resulted in six home league defeats. for The Rams this season. If they are to stand a chance of getting themselves out of trouble they need to start making Holloways Park a fortress and they have no better time to begin than with up and coming home games against Godalming Town and North Greenford United.
