The Rams made their way into the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with a good all round team performance - as well as riding their luck on occasion - and now face Greenwich Borough at Holloways Park which, if they win the tie, would see SYCOB set a new club milestone as they've never been further in the competition before.
The first thirty minutes, in truth, offered little to report from either side but on 32 minutes the game finally came to life. A needlessly conceded free kick saw The G's Darrren Wheeler put in a great cross that was met perfectly by Jack Mazzone but his goal bound header was superbly turned over by Rams No.1 Sam Bunting. From the resulting corner Bunting again came to his sides rescue as he kept out a strong header and the keepers heroics seemed to inspire his team mates as Lee Togwell had a long range shot deflected for a corner which itself led to a bit of a scramble on the Godalming line.
The second period saw the impressive Ollie Jones have a shot just wide on 51 minutes yet within 60 seconds Godalming had the lead when a seemingly good challenge by Alex Murray was deemed a foul by Referee Nick McKenzie and Mazzone made no mistake from the penalty spot. However, just seven minutes later The Rams were level when a free kick by Togs was met by the head of substitute Ashley Kelynack to give G's keeper Richard Ossai no chance.
The Rams now took control of the game with some good periods of keep ball though in truth no end product. That changed on 81 minutes when a long throw by Zak Martin was headed on by Jon Munday and met by an oh so sweet volley by Ollie Jones to put SYCOB ahead for the first time in the tie.
Kelynack then had a shot go over on 84 minutes and an on 90 minutes Togs set up Aaron Berry but his effort went wide. Godalming's Will Hutton also had a shot go close in added time but The Rams goal was not to be breached twice and the final whistle was greeted with much joy amongst the SYCOB faithful.
The Rams may have lost all their home league games so far this season but they and won both cup games at Holloways Park. Let's hope they can make it a hat-trick of wins in the next round!
