Rams Dig Deep to Claim the Points

HARTLEY WINTNEY 0  BEACONSFIELD TOWN 1

Rams Man Of The Match: REECE YORKE

Beaconsfield’s incredible away run continued with a narrow, hard fought victory over a strong Hartley Wintney side, the three points brought back to Bucks cementing The Rams position at second in the league table (and ensuring they now have enough points not to be relegated!)

This was always going to be a tight affair between two in form teams and the early exchanges saw both sides cancelling each other out. Beaconsfield, however, made an early breakthrough when a ninth minute free kick by Scott Cousins pinged around the Hartley area, came back off a post and was cleared by a defender only to hit Alex Cathline and bounce into the net! Not the prettiest of goals but they all count!

Four minutes later Andre Costa set up Cathline but his effort went over the bar whilst on 15 minutes Aaron Minhas had a long range effort on its way to goal before Row keeper Paul Strudley turned it over.

The home side weathered the early Rams storm and on 22 minutes Jake Baxter saw a shot saved by Ravan Constable. The two sides then traded periods of possession and put on a decent football display showing why they are both near the top of the table.

The second period took a while to come to life but the home side were for sure seeing more of the ball. On 66 minutes The Rams lost possession in the middle of the park and Baxter raced onto it and chipped round Constable but his effort bounced back off the post. Rowan Vine then put a couple of half chances wide as the home side ramped up the pressure though a header over by AJ and shot just wide by Cathline showed The Rams were more than capable of mounting attacks of their own.

Constable was without doubt the busier of the two keepers, making a good save from a free kick on 80 minutes and then grateful for a misfiring Row striker on 83 minutes who really should have drawn his side level. However, some solid, organized, no nonsense defending by Beaconsfield ensured that their goal would not be breached.

For sure The Rams rode their luck at times and on another day Hartley probably would have earned a point. However, a strong team performance with everyone putting in a decent shift ensured Beaconsfield made the most of their good fortune to take the three points and continue their fine run of results. Long may it continue!
