Rams Enjoy Away Day on the Coast

MONEYFIELDS 2          BEACONSFIELD TOWN 4

Rams Man Of The Match: KEZIE IBE

On a sunny day on the South Coast, a solid performance by The Rams, especially in the first half, saw them complete the league double over Moneyfields and retain their position at the top of the table.

On an energy sapping surface Beaconsfield took the lead on seven minutes when a James Taylor corner was met by Jerome Eccleston who headed past Tom Price in The Moneys goal. Eight minutes later the home keeper then made an almighty hash of punching away a clearance, the ball falling kindly to Tony Mendy who needed no second invitation to slot it into the empty net.

Moneyfields are a decent, if physical team, well drilled at set pieces, and they were back in the game on 22 minutes when Joe Briggs got on the end of a long clearance to shoot past Nick Hamann in The Rams goal. However, just as the home side’s momentum was building up Beaconsfield struck again – a 33 rd minute free kick from Taylor found Baj Pashaj who in turn fed Kezie Ibe who fired past Price to put the visitors 3-1 up.

Jordan Ajanlekoko had a decent chance to make it four on 41 minute but his header went just over whilst four minutes later the home side were lucky not to have a man sent off  when Brett Poate pulled back Mendy as the striker bore down on goal.

The second period saw the home side move up a gear and on 49 minutes Sam Pearce sent in a 30 yard shot / cross that flew past Hamman to put his team right back in it. The game then flowed back and forth as both sides created chances – Hamann made good saves in the 50 th and 58 th minutes, AJ put a header over on 51 minutes, Baj scooped a good chance wide on 58 minutes and on 68 minutes he saw a great goal bound free kick tipped over by Price. He had another free kick cannon off the bar on 77 minutes whilst Moneyfields sent in a stream of crosses in their search for an equalizer that fortunately for The Rams the final efforts never really troubled Hamann.

In time added on the ball found the tireless Ibe and just as he made for the corner to run down the clock he then slipped the ball goal-wards where a grateful Lee Barney was lurking to tap home his sixth goal in seven days.

This was a really hard earned but deserved three points on the road for The Rams from a fixture that was always going to be difficult. For the most part they kept their shape and their discipline and made good use of their quality squad, traits they will need for the remaining five games.

Come On You Rams!

(or as Scott Cousins would say, “Come On You  Male Sheep”!)

PS: A big “Thank You” to the Mercedes engineer who went above and beyond the call of duty to get The Rams coach working and ensuring it got everyone home. Also to the driver who had to negotiate some very very tight roads in and out of the ground!
