RAMS EXIT COUNTY CUP

CHESHAM UNITED 4 BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 0

SYCOB's last chance of silverware this season disappeared to a relatively comfortable victory for current holders Chesham United in the quarter finals of the Berks & Bucks Cup.

On a wet surface The Rams actually started the brighter of the two teams, earning a succession of corners and generally pressuring The Generals defence but without any real cutting edge. A strong Chesham side - marshalled by ex-Premier League star Darren Purse and with lively ex-Ram Ryan Blake up front - gradually found their way into the game around the twenty minute mark and they scored on 24 minutes when a failure to clear defensive lines in The Rams area saw the ball fall to Dave Pearce to slot home.

The goal gave The Generals a platform to build on - Blake had a seemingly good goal disallowed on 28 minutes, Sam Bunting had to be at his best to deny Connor Wood on 32 minutes and Purse had a header just wide from a corner on 37 minutes. Both Wood and Inih Effiong should have scored in the 43rd and 44th minutes respectively but Chesham did eventually get a deserved second on the stroke of half time when George Fenton powerfully headed home a corner.

The second half followed pretty much the same pattern to the first with The Generals bossing the game and The Rams only having half chances by Omari Patrick and Aaron Berry to show for their efforts. Chesham's persistent attacking finally paid off in the last ten minutes of the game when on 82, following a good save by Sam Bunting, Dave Pearce followed up to net his second and Chesham's third whilst two minutes into injury time Wood got onto a rebound to chalk up No.4 and give the score line a fairer reflection of the nights action.

For The Rams the season now holds a battle against relegation. Still plenty of points to play for but without goals they'll find it hard to earn any.
