RAMS MARCH ON IN CUP!

BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 2 GODALMING TOWN 0

Beaconsfield SYCOB progressed to the last eight of the Red Insure League Cup with a solid 2-0 victory against Calor League South & West side Godalming Town and in the process stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to eleven games with the last five all resulting in victories.

Considering all the recent rain plus a downfall about two hours before kick-off the SYCOB pitch was in pretty good condition, testament to sterling work behind the scenes by Gould Turf.

The early exchanges were evenly matched, SYCOB's first proper chance coming on eleven minutes when they fired just wide, a feat matched a minute later by Godalming's Watkins. Jon-Jo Bates hit a fierce shot just over on the quarter hour mark whilst Rams keeper James Reading had to be at his best to keep out a G's attack on 25 minutes.

The Rams made the break-through on 29 minutes with a cross come shot from Tom O'Regan that managed to squeeze past G's keeper Zaki Oualah from quite a tight angle. SYCOB then upped their game and applied some constant pressure with JJ again going close though James Reading was also playing his part with a couple of good saves.

If the first half could be said to have been evenly matched then the second 45 was pretty much all SYCOB and if they'd scored four or five it wouldn't have been out of context - Kofi Lockhart-Adams scuffed a couple of chances he might normally have buried, Ryan Phillips sent a drive mere inches past the Godalming goal, Aaron Morgan hit the bar as well as forcing Oualah into a couple of good saves, John Christian fired just - lots and lots of scoring opportunities but the only one that counted was Kofi's in the 65th minute when he ran onto a lovely weighted pass from O'Regan and calmly chipped the ball over the Godalming keeper.

Progression to the Fourth Round of the League Cup, a clean sheet, two goals and a host of chances, an unbeaten run stretching back to the first week of November and manager Gary Meakin saying that this is arguably the best group of players he has had in over 200 games as a manager - the future looks bright and it looks to be in Rams Red & White!
