Rams March on in F.A. Trophy

BEACONSFIELD TOWN 3                     KEMPSTON ROVERS 1

RAMS MAN OF THE MATCH:  Wes Daly

Beaconsfield finally overcame the stubborn resistance of Kempston Rovers to move into the Second Qualifying Round of the Buildbase F.A. Trophy for only the second time in their history.

Manager Gary Meakin made a few changes to Saturday’s starting line up and two of the players brought in to the team saw early strikes on goal, Charlie Losasso going close on four minutes and Brendan Matthew forcing a good save out of the visitors Martin Conway on seven minutes. On the quarter hour mark, however, the home side did take the lead as Callum Webb made a good run into the box, cut inside and fired a great strike that gave Conway no chance.

As in the first game, Kempston were soon on level terms as on 21 minutes The Rams failed to clear their lines properly and the ball fell invitingly to Ben Acquaye who slotted past the previously untroubled Ravan Constable.

Losasso then forced another good save out of Conway on 30 minutes and then five minutes later Jerome Eccleston set up Brendan Matthew who powered into the Kemspton area, rode a lunging tackle and fired into the bottom right of the net to put Beaconsfield back in front.

The visitors were nearly gifted an equalizer on 41 minutes when Constable was robbed by Kempston’s Josh Crawley but luckily for The Rams his effort bounced back off the post.

A long range effort from James Taylor on 52 minutes was well tipped over by Conway though a 56th minute attack on the counter by The Walnut Boys that brought a decent save out of Ravan showed that Kempston were still in the tie.

Their cause wasn’t helped on 71 minutes, though, when right back Mason Spence was shown a straight red for seemingly kicking out at a Rams defender. To their credit the ten men visitors kept on pressing the home defence though they rarely troubled Ravan and as they pressed for an equalizer they were hit by a last minute counter attack by The Rams as Tony Mendy ran in on goal before squaring the ball to Tom O’Regan to calmly slot into an empty net.

The victory means The Rams will now travel to Bostik North side Aveley on Saturday 10th November meaning the scheduled league game at Harrow Borough will be re-arranged.
