RAMS RUN RIOT OVER DIDDY MEN!

BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 5 DIDCOT TOWN 1

Beaconsfield SYCOB broke their home duck in some style with a 5-1 walloping of South & West side Didcot Town. In the process they not only moved into the next round of the FA Cup but also earned much needed £1925 in prize money and hopefully put a smile on the face of stricken Vice Chairman Paul Hughes who the day before had fractured his pelvis whilst changing the fixture board.

Most pleasing though was the performance, particularly in the second half - this is a young team learning "on the job" and they are maturing with every game.

Lee Togwell, as always, led the way and on six minutes a great pass by Togs set Omari Patrick free and he saw his shot well saved by James Foster. Four minutes later Aaron Berry made the most of a defensive mix up to walk the ball into the net and put the home side a goal up.

Didcot then had plenty of opportunity to equalise with John Mills in particular guilty of missed chances and they were made to pay in the 32nd minute when some good build up play by Lee Thompson and Aaron Berry set up Omari to make it 2-0. Back came Didcot and again it was Mills who missed a golden opportunity though he wasn't the only Railwayman who lost direction in front of goal. Centre Half Luke Cornell showed the forwards how to do it when he took advantage of hesitancy in the Rams defence to power home a header on the stroke of half time.

Clearly buoyed by their goal Didcot came out early for the second half, eager to get at The Rams. However, SYCOB were having none of it and both Berry and Ollie Jones had decent half chances as Beaconsfield played some nice football albeit with one pass too many at times.

Controversy reigned in the 61st minute when Didcot's Adam Learoyd took a swing at Jones but though seen by the officials and the entire crowd of 148, incredibly Ref Wayne Cartmel felt just a talking to was punishment enough!

Mills miserable night hit a new low in the 63rd minute when he rounded an on rushing Sam Bunting and with the goal gaping somehow managed to hit to the post. He really could have had a hat-trick!

Jones took revenge for the earlier "non punch" in 71st minute when he sent a great strike from outside the area into the Didcot top corner to put The Rams three one up. Not content to sit on the lead SYCOB kept at Didcot and on 80 minutes Aaron Berry curled a beauty round Foster though The Rams forward didn't see it hit the net as he was crudely taken out by Cornell.

With Didcot well beaten The Rams played some good 'keep ball' with the odd probe into the visitors six yard box, Omari just failing to convert an 82nd minute cross from Berry. Captain Togwell put the icing on the cake with a superbly taken breakaway effort in injury time to cap a glorious night for Beaconsfield SYCOB FC.

This was probably the best performance so far this season by The Rams and hopefully many of the neutrals for this Friday night fixture will return to Holloways Park for future games - maybe The Rams should even look at staging more Friday night games, there certainly seems to be an audience for it. In the meantime it's COME ON YOU RAMS!
