RAMS RUN RIOT OVER RUSHDEN!

BEACONSFIELD TOWN FC 4 AFC RUSHDEN & DIAMONDS 0

"Our best performance of the season" was how Assistant Manager Andy Hurley described the 4-0 thumping of league leaders AFC Rushden & Diamonds and few of the Beaconsfield faithful (or should that be the few Beaconsfield faithful?!) would argue with him.

Right from the first whistle The Rams set about their opponents, with Sam Deadfield sending an effort just wide in the first minute. Four minutes later the first of a succession of Beaconsfield corners saw Captain Lee Togwell score with a rare header. Four minutes after that and Callum Bunting brought out a good save from Diamonds stopper Matt Finlay, the first of many he had to make.

Rushden gradually started to come in to the game but rarely threatened Sam Bunting in The Rams goal though it has to be said Beaconsfield were fortunate to survive a penalty shout on 26 minutes when Alex Murray tangled with a Rushden forward. Finlay remained the busier of the two keepers and on 44 minutes he did well to keep out an effort by Ash Artwell.

The second half was only five minutes old when a poor corner by Artwell was sliced into his own net by Diamonds skipper Richard Bunting. Eight minutes later another Bunting, Callum, got on the score sheet as a good Beaconsfield move found Togwell in space on the right and his inch perfect cross was met by the head of young Callum to put The Rams three goals to the good.

The busy Aaron Minhas fired just over on 63 minutes after another good Beaconsfield passing movement had cut open the Rushden defence. On 68 minutes the hard working Sam Deadfield hit a great shot from the edge of the area that flew past Finlay to put The Rams into dreamland - four up and totally in control against the league leaders!

Both Minhas and Deadfield brought out saves from Finlay late in the game as Beaconsfield played some lovely football that brought glowing comments from the gracious Rushden officials.

A large crowd ensured that this was a good day both on and off the field for Beaconsfield. Hopefully any neutrals will have liked what they saw and will return to Holloways Park for future games, including the "Special Priced" "South Bucks Derby" against Chalfont St Peter on February 13th.
