RAMS RUN RIOT OVER SAINTS!

ST ALBANS CITY 2 BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 4

Beaconsfield SYCOB celebrated one of the best wins in their history when they beat Calor Premier Division high flyers St Albans City 4-2 in the second round of the prestigious Red Insure Cup - if the score-line read 10-2 it would give a more accurate reflection as "Meakins Marauders" really put The Saints to the sword.

Right from the off The Rams tore into their hosts, closing them down quickly when St Albans had the ball and passing crisply and effectively when they were in possession themselves. As early as the second minute Kofi Lockhart-Adams (who could have had at least five goals) hit the post after chipping The Saints keeper. He miskicked when given a decent opening two minutes later and had one cleared off the line on fifteen minutes whilst both Jon-Jo Bates and Jack Hutchinson caused continual havoc and panic in The Saints defence.

The breakthrough came in the 25th minute when James McCluskey finished a great run and cross by Hutchinson. Four minutes later "The Rams Massive" (well, President Dave Piercy, Karl the Programme, Taff and The Captain!) were in wonderland as Kofi made it 2-0 after another sustained bout of SYCOB pressure.

Bates, Hutchinson and Kofi all had further decent chances and it wasn't until the 40th minute that St Albans made one of their own, a mucked up SYCOB free kick giving them a breakaway which led to James Reading having to make a good save.

The first ten minutes of the second half saw some concerted Saints pressure, Reading making a good save right at the start and The Rams defence under attack for the first time in the game and on 52 minutes Harrison Georgiou hit a lovely volley past the SYCOB keeper and it looked like St Albans would up their game and turn the match around. However, just five minutes later Hutchinson broke away, rode his luck and finished in style to put The Rams 3-1 up.

This revitalised Beaconsfield and once again they created a stack of chances with Jon Jo Bates involved in most of them as well as Kofi and Hutchinson. On 63 minutes some good link up play by Bates set up Kofi and he put The Rams into a stunning 4-1 lead that silenced the home support.

Captain Poults had a good shot from outside the area saved and the whole SYCOB team were playing some great free flowing football that was creating numerous chances. However it was St Albans who chalked up the final goal of the night, Greg Ngoyi finishing off a good period of passing football by The Saints in the 81st minute.

If you take into account that SYCOB also had 11 players unavailable due to injury, suspension, work or loan arrangements and the score-line is even more sensational. What a performance, what a game and what a result! Roll on Round 3!
