Rams Man Of The Match: LEE BARNEY

A Lee Barney hat-trick helped Beaconsfield record their biggest win for many years as they completed a league double over lowly Arlesey Town.

The first ten minutes saw Arlesey stopper Lewis Elsom make good saves to deny Andre Costa, Lee Barney and Tony Mendy and the home faithful began to wonder if it was going to be one of those days, especially when Keanu Williams fired just over on 25 minutes for the visitors. Their fears were allayed on 28 minutes, however, when Lee Barney poached the ball in midfield and set up strike partner Tony Mendy who supplied a classy finish to put The Rams in front.

Mendy turned provider four minutes later when his pass found Andre Costa who hit an unstoppable effort past Elsom to give the home side a little breathing space going in to the half time break.

Arlesey may be bottom of the league but they still had a bit of spark about them and to their credit they ‘had a go’ at The Rams though their finishing let them down. Beaconsfield were also having trouble adding to their total as Mendy went close on 49 and 57 minutes when well placed and Aaron Minhas fired just over on 61 minutes. They did manage to get a third on 74 minutes when Barney was pulled to the ground in the area by Billy Plumpton. The defender was dismissed and Barney calmly slotted away the resulting penalty.

Down to ten men Arlesey were simply over run by their hosts. On 81 minutes Baj Pashaj curled in an effort from just inside the box whilst four minutes later Barney turned his marker and shot past Elsom to make it five. He got his third and The Rams sixth on 90 minutes when Pashaj danced through the Arlsey defence and pulled it back for Barney to power home. The final strike came in time added on when Captain Wes Daly was set up to smash the ball past Elsom and complete a good day at the office for the home side.

The victory keeps The Rams in third place and with a much improved goals for column. A game that could so easily have been a ‘banana skin’ was successfully negotiated and it’s a great confidence booster ahead of a testing run of games over the last few weeks of the season.

Come On You Rams!
