KETTERING TOWN 1 BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 1
Just under fifteen years ago Kettering Town were an established Conference club and FA Trophy finalists at Wembley. Today they have no ground of their own and ply their trade in the Calor League Central Division whilst playing 'home' games at United Counties Division One neighbours Burton Latimer Wanderers "unusual" ground. The fact that they are still here at all is testament to their friendly well organised committee and dedicated large loyal following - what SYCOB would give to get just a quarter of the 556 in attendance for one of our home fixtures!
As with the previous weeks game against Aylesbury, SYCOB went behind to an early goal, conceding in the first minute to a Louis Hamilton strike after hesitation in The Rams defence. Kettering were very much on top in the early exchanges and it took until the 17th minute for The Rams to register a meaningful chance when Zak Joseph had an effort well saved by Denham Hinds in The Poppies goal.
Kettering, whilst not a strong side, were a well organised and determined one and should probably have gone in 2-0 up at half time but like SYCOB in some recent games they failed to turn their pressure into goals.
Gary Meakins made a double half time substitution with Jon-Jo Bates and Brian Haule coming on for Kofi Lockhart-Adams and John Christian and SYCOB looked a totally different side to the one from the first forty-five. On 55 minutes Captain Poults sent in a pin point free kick that was met by debutant Reece Yorke who sent a firm header past Hinds to put The Rams back on level terms.
At 1-1 it looked like SYCOB would go on and take the three points that they really should have come home with but despite some good pressure and a couple of spurned half chances for Zak Joseph and Jack Hutchinson the game was never fully in The Rams grasp and a 1-1 draw was probably a fair result in this game of very much two halves.
On the positive side it was four games unbeaten for The Rams and Reece Yorke looks a decent signing who should fit into the slot vacated by the injured Yiadom Yeboah. The big crowd didn't overawe the players and conceding early didn't see heads drop. We have a good squad developing here and our season is going to get a lot more interesting.
