SCHOLARS TEACH SYCOB A LESSON

POTTERS BAR TOWN 4 BEACONSFIELD TOWN FC 0

The Rams returned home from a windy Pakex Stadium with absolutely nothing to show for their afternoons toils, their hosts mastering the conditions to chalk up an impressive and well deserved win.

A poor first half - that saw only a couple of tame efforts by the home side and cheeky chip by Lee Togwell - finally came to life on 42 minutes when Tim Wohlfiel was judged to have brought down Evandro Delgado. Scholars Captain Gary Jones stepped up and placed a perfect penalty out of the reach of Arvydas Kacinkevicius in The Rams goal to give his side a half time lead.

Beaconsfield started the second period with a bit more attacking intent and Potters Bar had to put in a couple of last ditch tackles to block strikes on goal. Togwell and Aaron Minhas also both had (tame) shots but in truth The Rams didn't really look like undoing the well drilled Scholars defence.

On 73 minutes Beaconsfield over played in the midfield and the loose ball was pounced on by Eoin Casey who sent an inch perfect chip over Arvydas to put his side two up.

Two became three five minutes later when a Scholars free kick was headed in to the path of an unmarked Jones who had no trouble putting the ball into the Beaconsfield net.

The Rams finally had an effort of note on 80 minutes when Guri Demuria sent in a cross that was met by the head of sub Ollie McCoy and then by an excellent reflex save by the otherwise under employed Ben Goode.

On 90 minutes Tope Fowudu rounded Goode, beat one defender and let off a shot that Jones somehow managed to turn past the post. An incredible miss that summed up Beaconsfield's day and it got even worse in time added on as some good build up play by Potters Bar saw Chris Doyle smash home a fourth.

The Rams were rarely at the races today as suspensions, injuries, the conditions and an in form Potters Bar all proved a hurdle too many. Time to regroup and go again in the "South Bucks Derby" against Chalfont St Peter.
