THE SAINTS GO MARCHING ON

CHALFONT ST.PETER 5 BEACONSFIELD TOWN FC 1

After the euphoria of back to back wins over Northwood and Marlow, Beaconsfield were emphatically brought down to earth with a heavy defeat at the hands of league leaders Chalfont St. Peter.

Jack Read sent a shot just wide on two minutes but it was The Saints who drew first blood. Some atrocious defending by Beaconsfield on seven minutes gave the ball to the dangerous Tony Mendy who's effort cannoned off the woodwork and fell to ex-Ram Kofi Lockhart-Adams to stick the ball away.

Lee Togwell had a shot on 18 minutes and Aaron Minhas bought out a good save from Michael Power-Simpson (another ex-Ram) on the half hour mark but the Beaconsfield cause was not helped by the 33rd minute dismissal of Tristan Campbell for a two footed challenge on Alan Hedley. From the resulting free kick Mendy hit the Beaconsfield bar but in truth, down to ten men, Beaconsfield regrouped and played well and should have scored on 38 minutes when Charlie Losasso set up Read but the striker somehow missed the ball completely.

Both Mendy and Jack Mullan had further very presentable chances for The Saints but at 1-0 at half time Beaconsfield were still very much in the game.

Six minutes in to the second half The Rams were on level terms as Losasso sent over an inch perfect cross that Read hit on the volley to give Power-Simpson no chance. However, straight from the kick off Mendy headed Chalfont back in front and from that moment on The Saints had a stranglehold on proceedings and attacked The Rams at will. On 63 minutes Lockhart-Adams got on the end of a multi pass movement to score his second and then five minutes later sub Anthony Thomas (yet another ex-Ram) chipped Sam Bunting from at least 30 yards to put Chalfont 4-1 up.

The introduction of Trevor Mintero gave Beaconsfield a new outlet up front and he brought out a fine save from Power-Simpson on 70 minutes whilst Losasso shot narrowly wide sixty seconds later.

Lockhart-Adams completed a deserved hat-trick on 76 minutes after yet another fine Chalfont move and the forward somehow hit the Beaconsfield bar two minutes later when he seemed certain to score.

Beaconsfield still managed to pierce the Chalfont defence and with a bit more composure could have clawed a goal or two back. Having said that, Chalfont had a couple of efforts disallowed and Mendy sent one over the bar and it always felt that they could have gone up another gear if they'd wanted whereas the ten men of Beaconsfield were seriously stretched.

Not the best of days at the office for The Rams - with 11 men they might have had more of a chance. Chalfont, however are flying at the moment and one can only hope it's their turn to come crashing back down to earth for next weeks' return against Beaconsfield in the FA Trophy.
