Three Goals but No Points on Road for Rams

KEMPSTON ROVERS 4             BEACONSFIELD TOWN 3

Rams Man Of The Match: CALLUM WEBB

The Rams went down to only their second away defeat of the season as a strong first half performance by Kempston ensured that the points remained in Bedfordshire.

The hosts wasted no time in getting at The Rams and went close to taking the lead in the seventh and tenth minutes when efforts by Nathan Tshikuna and Josh Crawley respectively went narrowly wide of the Beaconsfield goal. It was the visitors however who were the first to trouble score board as in the thirteenth minute Tre Mitford made the most of a poor back pass by Seb Simpson to round keeper Martin Conway and slot the ball home.

This should have acted as a spring board for The Rams but instead it served to further incentivize Kempston and after a bout of pressure they were level on 26 minutes when a long throw fell kindly to Robbie Goodman who fired past a hapless Ravan Constable. Five minutes later the right back doubled his tally as some decent build up play from Kempston and some slack marking from Beaconsfield saw Goodman in space to again drill past Constable.

The Rams were level within five minutes as Callum Webb showed great close control to weave his way into the box and put a curling effort out of the reach of Conway. 2-2 on 38 minutes but it didn’t stay that way for long as Kempston retook the lead when a free kick was whipped in that eluded all but Goodman who headed past a stranded Constable to score and complete a memorable twelve minute hat-trick. It could have been worse for The Rams as on the stroke of half-time Crawley was set free but he scuffed his effort wide.

After such a frenetic first 45 the second period was always going to be a touch less manic and so it proved as both sides struggled to put together moves of any note and were both guilty of conceding possession cheaply. Baj Pashaj put a decent effort just wide on 70 minutes for The Rams but a delightful 78 th minute free kick by Ben Shepherd put the hosts 4-2 up.

To their credit The Rams kept going and pulled one back on 87 minutes when Michal Peacock headed home after Kempston had failed to clear a free kick but it was to prove in vain as an equalizer wasn’t forthcoming and The Walnut Boys joined Chalfont St Peter in completing a league double over Beaconsfield.

Two defeats in thirteen away games is no mean feat by any team’s standards. Beaconsfield now need to pick themselves up, dust themselves down and go again. There is still a long way to go and as the other results on the day showed, the season has a lot of twists and turns to come.

Come On You Rams!
