Unbeaten run comes to an end at Hartley

HARTLEY WINTNEY 2  BEACONSFIELD TOWN 0

The Rams six game unbeaten run finally came to an end at Hartley Wintney. On a dry bobbly pitch the visitors couldn’t get any sort of rhythm going and they can have no complaints about the final result.

Injuries, holidays and late withdrawals all meant that manager Gary Meakin had to ‘shuffle his pack’. The poor playing surface and an early injury to leading scorer Brendan Matthew all ensured that was to be a trying afternoon for The Rams.

The home side’s lively Mitchell Parker had the first effort of note, firing just wide in the very first minute. On nine minutes they took the lead as a corner bounced around the Beaconsfield box before it was poked home by Nathan Smart.  They could have had a second on the half hour mark but Parker’s effort was just wide of Ravan Constable’s goal. Home keeper Chris Harris, meanwhile, had very little to do as The Rams struggled to get any sort of grip on the game.

On 50 minutes Parker saw an effort well saved by Constable but five minutes later he seized on a poor defensive pass to fire past Constable, albeit with the aid of both posts. Two nil to Hartley.

The Rams first effort on goal came on 75 minutes when Charlie Losasso saw his free kick hit the top of The Row goal. Sixty seconds later Thomas Gogo put a shot over the bar but that that was as good as it got for Beaconsfield  who may well have lost by a third goal as Alex Albert’s last minute header had to be pushed aside by Ravan.

Both of these sides made their debut in the Premier Division this season and both have acquitted themselves well and ensured mid table placings. There are a lot of better supported and funded clubs who would gladly swap their seasons for the one enjoyed by both The Row and The Rams and that bodes well for the future of both these clubs.

Come On You Rams!
