Beaconsfield undone by poor 2nd half

Southern League Division One Central

Beaconsfield Town 1-3 Leighton Town

Ram of the match: Matty Harriot

Beaconsfield Town were beaten 3-1 at home by Leighton Town, in a game of two halves.

The game began with Leighton Town creating a couple of good chances and having several early corners. Beaconsfield quickly grew into the game and were denied the opener when Manu Oke-William’s header crashed against the crossbar. It looked like it would be a tightly fought game, with the battle in midfield being crucial. Both teams created further chances as the first half progressed, with a notable effort from Beaconsfield’s Troy Silvera, whose shot went inches wide of the post. Leighton would have taken a lead into the break had it not been for a great save from Beaconsfield shot stopper Eddie Brearey, who kept the scoreline 0-0.

A fast start to the second half saw Leighton Town take the lead in the 48th minute through Sam McClelland who headed in a perfect delivery from the corner. Almost immediately after the restart Leighton Town found a second, a great shot from Lynton Goss finding the bottom corner in the 50th minute. Beaconsfield made changes, and captain Matty Harriott had a good shot from the edge of the box, but the visitors were well on top now and playing with confidence. Beaconsfield keeper Brearey made a number of fine saves to keep the hosts deficit to two goals but was beaten again in the 74th minute when Goss once again found the back of the net, with another effort fired into the corner after the visitors high press resulted in them stealing the ball inside the final third. Beaconsfield found a consolation in the final seconds when Akiel Raffie fired a fantastic free kick past Leighton Town keeper Rose in the 94th minute.
