Chesham snatch points with Late Late show

Tuesday 26th December 2023
Southern League Premier Division South

Beaconsfield Town 1 v 2 Chesham United
Holloways Lane - Att 486
Ram of The Match - Matt Rowley

For the second time in three days Beaconsfield Town let a result they had apparently earned slip from their grasp at the death. Emerging with just One point from two games when they were within seconds of claiming Four from their Christmas Holiday efforts.
In a game of few clear chances, the ultimate result was harsh on The Rams and keeper Matt Rowley in particular.
The on-loan stopper produced several excellent saves, culminating in a second-half penalty save that galvanised his Rams teammates into the surge that saw them force their equaliser, when James Dobsons pull back from the byeline was turned past his own keeper by Ryan Upward.
After a nondescript first half where defences were on top and neither goalkeeper was severely pressured the game burst into life three minutes into the second period.

An attempted through ball ricocheted off the shin of Sam Granville and fell kindly into the path of Ricardo German, wrong-footing Rams skipper Luke Neville in the process as Neville recovered his position German progressed into the area so the defender held off a rash challenge and that was all the invitation the Chesham striker needed as he rifled his shot past Rowley.
Moments later the visitors had the chance to double their lead from the penalty spot but Rowley was not taken in by German’s, hop, skip and jump, affected run-up. Just run up and hit it lad it’s not Swan lake! His weak strike was saved by Rowley plunging to his left. German was first to the rebound which sat up nicely but he blasted it high and wide of the far post.

The save was as good as a goal to the Rams who woke from their halftime slumbers and burst into life to enjoy their best spell of the game culminating in Zidan Akers playing in James Dobson on the left flank he burst to the bye line before cutting in and firing in the pullback which the sliding Ryan Upward could only divert past Zaki Oualah in the Chesham goal.
Asher Yearwood almost made it two before Oualah saved well from an Akers effort and twice teasing deliveries from Dobson and debutant Jake Gosling flew just out of reach of Rams attackers.

As time ticked down Chesham through everything at getting a winner and it came in the final minute of added time after a long throw was kept alive and pinged around the box before Zak Joseph poked it home from close range.
The Rams now head to Hanwell for their new years day fixture
