After a positive start to the season, it's been a difficult period for the men's first team and with early exits from the FA Cup and FA Trophy, with a winless streak now of 10 games, we clearly find ourselves behind our intended target as things stand albeit early in the season, with 90 points still to play for. We have certainly seen the progression of our young talent coming through and at Hadley on Tuesday night we had two 17-year-olds and three 18-year-olds starting and 3 more coming off the bench; we all recognised this would be a tough challenge but we believe in our young players and the pathway we are building.
However, whilst having an eye on the long term we as a club must ensure we are competing at first team level and with that in mind the Directors have decided a restructure in our management team is necessary. Garry Haylock who has been instrumental in progressing our young players from our pathway, into the first team squad, has decided to leave the club and we want to express our sincere gratitude to Garry for his contribution over the past year.
Assistant manager Sam Togwell will be taking the senior role with the men's first team on an interim basis, starting this Saturday at home to AFC Dunstable, supported by the other members of the management team. We will be accepting applications for the role of first team manager but in the short term we will all be right behind Sam with the first team.
