Cup Run Ends at Concord

CONCORD RANGERS 2            BEACONSFIELD TOWN 1

Rams Man Of The Match: REECE YORKE

The Rams exited this seasons Emirates F.A. Cup with a narrow defeat in the Third Qualifying Round to National League South side Concord Rangers.

In heavy rain and strong winds it was the home side who settled first and they took the lead on six minutes when a ball over the top led to some hesitancy in The Rams defence and the vastly experienced Jack Midson nipped in and chipped the ball over visiting keeper Ravan Constable. Indeed, the home side should have had a second on ten minutes when the lively Frazer Shaw put in a cross that was narrowly missed by top scorer Alex Wall.

The Rams gradually settled into the match and on 27 minutes may well have had a penalty when a Baj Pashaj run saw him get a cross in just as he was firmly taken out by the home defence, ref Alan Blake dismissing Beaconsfield claims. A Jerome Eccleston goal line clearance on 37 minutes ensured that The Rams got to half time with only the one goal deficit and still very much in the cup tie.

Six minutes into the second half and Beaconsfield were on level terms as a wind assisted cross from the left by Mayowa Balogun was totally misjudged by Concord keeper Sam Beasant and nestled in the home net, Mayowa’s first goal in a Rams shirt.

Parity was short lived however as Wall set up Frazer Shaw on 59 minutes to slot past Constable though The Rams strongly felt that the forward should have been penalized for a foul earlier in the build up. Again, ref Blake dismissed their claims.

The Rams refused to let their heads drop and had a couple of decent chances to draw level. On 78 minutes a corner saw Brendan Matthew unmarked and with a free header at the back post but his effort went inches wide of the goal and on 90 minutes Matthew got on the end of a cross but again saw his strike go just wide of the post.

This was only the second time in their history that The Rams have reached the Third Qualifying Round of the F.A. Cup and for long periods they more than matched their higher division opponents. It’s now back to climbing the Premier South table.

Come On You Rams!
