EAGLES FEAST ON RAMS

BEDFORD TOWN 4 BEACONSFIELD TOWN FC 1

Despite taking a fortunate lead, Beaconsfield's miserable end of season run continued with a comprehensive defeat at The Eyrie, home of Bedford Town.

A much changed Rams line up - keeper Mohammed Ayoub was back in place of the departed Brendan Hazlett, Sheridan Campbell stepped up from the Under 18's to make his debut and regulars Ollie Jones and Spencer Maw were unavailable - and they were up against it from the early stages as Femi Orenuga on seven minutes and Andrew Phillips on eight both tested Ayoub who made a host of good saves to earn a M.O.M. award for Beaconsfield and kept the score-line respectable.

Despite constant pressure from The Eagles - Orenga forcing a save from Ayoub on 19 minutes and Callum Mapley clearing off the line on 21 - it was Beaconsfield who took the lead when a 24th minute cross by Charlie Losasso was turned into his own net by OIlie Swain. Beaconsfield then enjoyed a decent bit of possession as Bedford lost their way - Jack McKnight shot just wide on 34 minutes and Losasso had a shot well saved by Adam Harpur three minutes later. Bedford kept pressing, though, and just before half time, after Ayoub had parried a shot, a loose ball fell to Tommy Hull who put his side deservedly level.

A 49th minute free kick by Losasso, well saved by Harpur, and an effort scooped over by Aaron Jewell on 52 minutes gave the impression Beaconsfield were still in the game. In truth they were well under the cosh with Bedford having most of the play and making the most of numerous Beaconsfield stray passes and wrong decisions. On the hour mark a needlessly conceded free kick saw Ryan Auger place a beauty into Ayoub's top right hand corner and from then on it was all Bedford.

On 67 minutes Ayoub made a very good double save from Eagles strikes but he was powerless to prevent Leroy Griffiths powering home goal number 3 on 72 minutes. Two minutes later Griffiths tried a cheeky 35 yard lob that Ayoub did well to back peddle to reach.

Beaconsfield might have pulled one back on 85 minutes but first Harry Mepham and then Losasso were denied by last minute blocks. No such problem for Bedford as deep into added time a ball over the top of The Rams defence was pounced on by Lee Roache who easily beat Ayoub for The Eagles fourth.

Since their last victory against Petersfield back in mid February, Beaconsfield have taken two points from a possible twenty seven. Despite using twenty six different players, they've scored only six goals but conceded twenty. Not the best end to the season anyone could have wished for!
