Georg Gudjohnsen Proving the Pathway

Georg Gudjohnsen

The Beaconsfield Town squad for Saturday’s visit to Tiverton Town featured a new face with a famous footballing name.

Georg Gudjohnsen a 3rd year student at United Select Academy. Georg has just  returned from a two-week trial at Division One high flyers Bolton Wanderers, where  he was treading in the famous footsteps of his uncle Eider,  a Wanderers fan favourite back at the turn of the century when the Lancashire side was on the rise. Returning 14 years later after spells at Chelsea, where he won the premiership twice and Barcelona where he added the Champions League winners medal to the trophy cabinet.

While some youngsters might be overawed with such a talent in the family Georg is not phased, “I’m not concerned about feeling pressure to follow in his footsteps, I see him more as an inspiration someone, an example to aspire to”.

Now in his third year with United Select Academy, Georg is the latest beneficiary of the player development pathway which allows young players to find their level within the Academy, Windsor, and Beaconsfield Towns’ first team. Whilst also identifying and facilitating the ambitions of those with the ability to progress to the full-time professional ranks.
