Beaconsfield twice came from behind against their South Bucks neighbours to deservedly earn a replay in this Emirates FA Cup Qualifying Round tie.
In truth this was a game short on quality from both sides, with much of the game getting bogged down in midfield scraps and wasted long ball punts. Charlie Losasso was The Rams main source of inspiration and, on five minutes, a cheeky back heel from him played in Omar Vassell whose pass was then horribly miscued by Wes Daly – would have been a cracker had it gone in!
The home side did get one in on 14 minutes, when a cheaply conceded free kick saw Alan Hedley rise highest to steer the ball past a previously untroubled Jamie Norris. The Rams didn’t take long to respond, however, as on 19 minutes Losasso controlled a pass, flicked the ball up and then thumped it past ex-Ram Carl Dennison in The Saints goal.
With both sides guilty of wasting possession it seemed the only way to goal was via a set piece and so it proved on 32 minutes when Beaconsfield again conceded a cheap free kick, and then allowed Jake Cass the freedom of the six yard box to nod the ball home.
The Rams had a more determined feel to them at the start of the second period and on 50 minutes Captain Wes Daly was given space and time twenty yards out and he placed his shot into the right hand sided of Dennsion’s net.
That, however, was the only note of quality from either side in the second half as too many passes went astray, wrong decisions were made and frustration was felt in both teams’ players, supporters and benches. Not sure there will be much demand for a video of this game!
