BEACONSFIELD TOWN 0 MARLOW 2
Beaconsfield’s hopes of an extended run in the Emirates F.A. Cup were dashed for another season as visitors Marlow exacted revenge for knocking them out of last season’s competition.
The two teams were relatively evenly matched in the first period, both enjoying decent bouts of possession and creating chances to keep the opposition keepers on their toes. For Marlow, Allen Bossman sent a free kick just wide on two minutes and the busy Isaac Osei-Tutu forced Jamie Norris into a good save on 23 minutes and an even better one ten minutes later. Marlow’s Simon Grant also had to be on top of his game on 35 minutes to deny Aarron Morgan a certain goal, Spencer Bellotti’s follow up going just wide.
The Rams shaded the early part of the second half, Charlie Losasso setting up Stefan Powell on 49 minutes but his shot was scuffed harmlessly wide. Bellotti nearly caught out Grant with a cheeky chipped effort five minutes later while the Marlow custodian made excellent saves from both Losasso on 61 minutes and Aaron Minhas five minutes later to ensure his side stayed on level terms.
Marlow made the break through on 78 minutes when Jordan Brown twisted and turned his way past a couple of Rams defenders to fire under the diving Norris. They sealed the victory five minutes later when Charley Samuel was allowed time and space on the left hand side and he cut in and fired a good effort past Norris to put his side in to the hat for the Second Qualifying Round – though it came at a cost as Brown was sent off a short time later for a needless second yellow and he may well miss the next game.
In front of their biggest crowd since last seasons FA Cup defeat by Brackley Town, The Rams at least created a fair amount of chances. Just need to convert a few more of them now so…
Come On You Rams!
