RAIN CAN'T DAMPEN RAMS SPIRITS!

BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 1 DAVENTRY TOWN 0

Beaconsfield SYCOB beat not only a very strong and determined Daventry Town side (who would probably have felt they deserved at least a point) but also the extreme weather - a first half of howling wind and a second period of torrential rain that almost led to an abandonment. In the process they moved up to fourth place in the table, chalked up their ninth consecutive victory and extended their unbeaten run to fifteen matches, statistics that look good at any level of football.

The Rams got at 'Davo' from the off and saw Jon-Jo Bates go close on five minutes. They closed the Town players down quickly, forcing them to hurry and make mistakes and then bicker at one another. The pressure told on thirteen minutes when a short corner saw Jack Hutchinson have a shot that was parried with the ball falling to Jordan Ajanlekoko who, at the second attempt, nodded past Richard Morris in the Daventry goal.

SYCOB certainly dominated the first half with some lovely one touch fast paced football and probably should have gone in further ahead at the break had Tom O'Regan's shot not been well saved on thirty minutes.

The second half saw Daventry make a concerted effort to secure at least a point and Rams keeper James Reading had to make a couple of notable saves. The SYCOB central defensive pair, Reece Yorke and Brad Hewitt, dealt well with most things Daventry aimed at them and when they didn't, such as a free kick in the 85th minute, the bar came to the rescue. Beaconsfield did threaten on occasion but the atrocious weather didn't help their style of football. Ref Geoffrey Russell did well to keep the game going when he could so easily have called it off as the sheet rain made the playing surface a tad sodden!

The final whistle brought relief to The Rams faithful as there's no doubt this was a hard won three points - as the SYCOB Twitter man said, "the team are playing great football, the work ethic is superb and our pace is causing many teams a problem".
