Two evenly matched teams fought out an unremarkable FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round match at a sun drenched Wey Court and though both teams could point to missed chances a draw was probably a fair result.
A tetchy opening quarter of an hour saw nothing much to report other than a booking for Jon Mundy! Togs had a shot on target on the fifteen minute mark whilst the G's Will Hutton had a shot saved by Sam Bunting five minutes later. Mundy then had a glorious opportunity to open the scoring on 22 minutes but somehow put his header wide after a free kick by Togs. Marco Micaletto shot wide for Godalming on 35 minutes and the lively Hutton had a shot hit the bar just before half time.
The second period saw SYCOB have most of the play for the first fifteen minutes. Aaron Berry put one wide on 56 minutes and two minutes later he linked up well with Lee Thompson to force a superb finger tip save by Richard Ossai in the Godalming goal.
The G's came back into it around the 65 minute mark with Sam Bunting doing well to keep out a free kick and then Hutton blasting over four minutes later. A Godalming breakaway on 85 minutes nearly resulted in a goal when Oldland hit the SYCOB bar when seemingly sure to score. Rams sub Omari Patrick shot wide a minute later when maybe a little calmness could have resulted in at least forcing the keeper into a save.
Godalming clearly didn't fancy a replay and piled on the pressure in the last minutes and only a great save by Bunting followed by a desperate goal line clearance by the outstanding Mundy kept The G's at bay.
0-0 away to Godalming in a cup tie has to be seen as a good result. Let's hope the boys can build on this good work and get a result in the replay.
