RAMS BACK TO WINNING WAYS

ASHFORD TOWN (MIDDLESEX) 1 BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 4

Beaconsfield returned to winning ways with a comprehensive victory away at Ashford Town (Middlesex)who on more than one recent occasion have been a bit of a "bogie team" for SYCOB.

The Rams started very strongly, creating quite a few half chances in the opening minutes including a shot from John Christian that had to be turned away by the Ashford defence. The constant SYCOB pressure had to tell in the end and it duly did in the 10th minute when a Craig Carby cross was controlled and struck home by Brian Haule for his second goal in two games for Beaconsfield.

Ten minutes later a great run by Michael Lewis led to a pull back for Aaron Lansiquot who made no mistake from just inside the area. Twenty minutes gone and 2-0 to The Rams!

SYCOB had the ball in the net again on 23 minutes following a god run by the industrious Nathan Poulton but the linesman's flag cut short celebrations. On 31 minutes the celebrations were ecstatic as, following a clearance by Ashford keeper Tyler Tobin, Michael Lewis volleyed the ball home from all of 40 yards! It's doubtful we'll see a more spectacular goal this season but fingers crossed we do!

Ashford did start to come back into the game after this but still went in at half time 3-0 down and with James Reading not really having to make a save of any note.

If The Rams had bossed the first half then it was The Tangerines who took charge of the second and apart from one Aaron Lansiquot half chance it was all Ashford and the pressure told on 62 minutes when some slack defending in the middle of the field allowed Joe Hughes to pull one back.

It probably should have been 3-2 moments later as Ashford had a succession of good chances to reduce the arrears as The Rams defence seemed to over complicate their clearances and make life hard for themselves. However, the saying that you need to score when you are on top proved true again though as despite all the Ashford pressure it was Aaron Lansiquot who scored the next goal - another good run and cross by Michael Lewis allowed The Rams No.10 the chance to take the ball down, control it and then calmly slot home. 73 minutes and 4-1 to SYCOB.

To their credit Ashford never gave up (particularly centre half Jim Mann)and maybe 4-1 was a bit harsh but there was no doubt, on the first half performance alone, that The Rams deserved to come away with three points and move back up to fifth in the table.

This was also the first game this season where Beaconsfield SYCOB didn't have someone making a debut so hopefully a settled squad will get to know each other's ways and more results like this will follow.
