Beaconsfield SYCOB's interest in this seasons promotion picture pretty much came to an end with a home defeat by fellow Play Off contenders Kettering Town. The Poppies brought a large, vocal and good natured crowd with them and it was nice to see Holloways Park have a real atmosphere for a Rams game.

Kettering took charge of the game from the off and on nine minutes took the lead when a free kick was headed in by an unmarked Elliot Sandy. Rams keeper (and SYCOB Man Of The Match) James Reading had to tip one wide two minutes later and SYCOB's only real threat came from set pieces. Aaron Morgan did set off on a great run on 33 minutes but no-one in a Rams shirt could get on the end of his inviting cross. The Poppies nearly made SYCOB pay immediately as Sandy had a shot come back off the post and Reading had to be at his best to save the follow up from Henry Eze.

Kettering did chalk up a second five minutes before the break when Sandy got on the end of a well worked move to send The Poppies faithful into the club house for a celebratory half time pint!

The second half was a bit of a non event as apart from a couple of very good saves from James Reading, SYCOB never really created anything of note (Kettering keeper Alistair Worby not having one save to make) and a tiring Poppies - playing their fourth fixture in eight days - seemed content to see the game out.

Kettering should go on to make the Play Offs and maybe even grab the second promotion place. They have the support and history for sure to compete at a much higher level. SYCOB might not be in the Play Off mix up anymore but still have eight league games, a Top Ten finish and a County Cup Final to look forward to - we'd all have settled for that when you consider the chaos we endured a week before the season began.
