Rams Man Of The Match: NATHAN WEBB
Beaconsfield cane from a shock first half deficit to overrun their hosts with a strong second 45 performance that saw them once again move back to the top of the league.
The recent fine weather had dried the Aylesbury pitch to a playable level but it for sure had lots of humps and bumps that made control awkward for both sets of players. Nonetheless The Rams soon got into their stride and should have scored on 13 minutes when Lee Barney flew down the wing and sent a perfect ball across the face of The Moles goal but no-one was lurking to tap it home.
Aaron Minhas tried to chip Ashley Jenkins on 29 minutes as did Alex Cathline on 37 minutes whilst Minhas follow up was cleared of the line by a Moles defender as Beaconsfield went in search of the opening goal.
It wasn’t until the 44th minute that the home side mounted an attack worthy of the name and it resulted in a goal! A corner bounced around The Rams area and was eventually prodded home by Alex Woodfine.
Manager Gary Meakin shuffled his side at the start of the second half, bringing on Bajram Pashaj and Tony Mendy and this gave The Rams a much needed boost. On 48 minutes Baj went on one of his mazy runs and pulled the ball back for Barney who blazed wide when well placed. Sixty seconds later Barney set up Baj who saw his shot crash back off the post.
There was much more of an urgency and buzz about the Beaconsfield play especially with the introduction of Scott Cousins who’s first participation saw him set up Mendy on 61 minutes to poke home a deserved equalizer. Two minutes later a Rams corner found the head of Mendy who sent it way out of the reach of Jenkins to put the visitors in front.
The comeback was complete on 70 minutes when Baj twisted and turned his way past The Moles defence to send a curler past Jenkins and in off the post, a fine solo effort that put the game beyond Aylesbury. Mendy then passed up an opportunity to score his hat-trick when a great Callum Webb cross found him in space at the back post but for once his shooting boots deserted him and he poked it wide.
Rams keeper Nick Hamann never had a save to make the whole game and the three points were no less than Beaconsfield deserved. Going to be an ‘interesting’ next seven days, that’s for sure!
