HUNGERFORD TOWN 2 BEACONSFIELD TOWN 0
RAMS MAN OF THE MATCH: Jerome Eccleston
Beaconsfield Town exited this seasons Berks & Bucks Senior Cup at the first hurdle after a narrow defeat to National League South side Hungerford Town through their higher placed opponents certainly knew they had been in a game.
The opening exchanges saw little of note to report as both sides traded periods of possession without creating any goal scoring opportunities. An overhead kick by Tony Mendy on twenty minutes was easily dealt with by The Crusaders Charlie McCready whilst five minutes later a fierce cross that went right across The Rams area was Hungerford’s first decent offensive action.
Mendy did send an effort inches wide on 27 minutes after good build up play by Louis Stead whilst on 40 minutes the home side’s best chance fell to Danilo Orsi-Dadomo but his strike was well dealt with by Ravan Constable.
Playing down the slope for the second half the home side upped their tempo though it was Mendy who had the first chance, firing over the bar when well placed. On the hour mark the impressive Joe Adoo-Peters headed a Hungerford effort off the line. A minute later, however, a corner wasn’t cleared fully and home Captain Marvel Ekpiteta was on hand to shoot though a crowd of players and put The Crusaders one up.
The Rams should have equalized on 68 minutes as Mendy and then Brendan Matthew were both denied by fine reaction saves from McCready. The miss proved costly as on 85 minutes Ekipiteta grabbed his second of the night, making the most of a loose ball in the Beaconsfield box to ensure Hungerford progressed to the next round.
This was The Rams first defeat in nine games, the last one also coming in a cup match against National League South opposition. For long periods they more than matched Hungerford , as they did against Concord Rangers in the FA Cup game. Time to go on another unbeaten run, starting with Farnborough in the League this Saturday.
