Rams Man Of The Match: REECE YORKE
Well this was a game that had a bit of everything!
The Rams were ahead as early as the second minute when a Reece Yorke cross fell to Tony Mendy , his shot was saved by Northwood’s Xavi Comas but Alex Cathline was well placed to pounce on the loose ball and slot into the empty net.
The home fans fears of a rout were dispelled on 13 minutes when the lively Jermaine Osei took advantage of some slack Rams defending at a Northwood corner to put a powerful shot past Brendan Hazlett and he nearly had a second on 25 minutes when his header hit The Rams post.
A Mendy chip on 26 minutes almost caught out Comes and five minutes later the Northwood custodian made a fine save to again thwart Mendy. A pacey Northwood side always looked dangerous on the break, Wilson Chingoka nearly catching Hazlett out with a long range effort on 34 minutes. Two minutes later Osei did bag his second as he sliced through The Rams defence and sent in an effort that went under Hazlett.
Just before half time, however, the home-side were reduced to ten men when Joe Russell earned a second yellow for a foul on Nathan Webb. That, added to some ‘odd’ decisions by the referee did not make him a popular man amongst either set of supporters!
Lee Barney and Aaron Minhas were both brought on at the start of the second half and Barney almost scored with his first touch, Comas pulling off another fine save. The Rams did get on level terms on 51 minutes as a deep corner saw Reece Yorke rise highest to head the ball home and sixty seconds later they had the lead as a quickly taken free kick found Jordan Ajanlekoko who’s perfect cross fell to Mendy to score his second goal in two games for his new club.
Barney saw a fine effort on 60 minutes met by an equally fine save by Comas as The Rams passing game really came together. Barney also hit the side netting on 74 minutes but the ten men of Northwood never caved in, playing some fine fast flowing football and looking troublesome on the counter. Beaconsfield’s Barney and Ibe had great chances to put the game to bed but failed to do so and they were grateful for a fine save from Hazlett on 87 minutes as he beat out a good effort from Meshach Williams.
Another three points on the road, albeit earned the hard way, made sure The Rams stayed right on the tail of the two automatic promotion spots. With nine games to go, it sure is tight at the top!
Come On You Rams!
