Rams held by resolute Hendon

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South

Saturday 25th February 2023

Beaconsfield Town 1 Hendon 1

Holloways Park - Attendance 97

Ram of the Match – Kyel Reid

Beaconsfield Town began the post Gary Meakin era with a frustrating draw against a tenacious and spirited Hendon, who created few opportunities but almost pinched all the points at the end.

With their new management team, former Slough pairing Neil Baker and Jon Underwood, watching in the stands The Rams delivered a dominant performance that had everything fans at Holloways Park have come to expect from this group, apart from goals.

They created enough chances in the first half to win two games. Just as in their first meeting earlier in the month. The Rams found Hafed Al-Droubi in the Hendon goal almost unbeatable.

Dan Bradshaw was thwarted twice by point-blank saves and Nathan Minhas and Kyel Reid also brought the best from the former Ram keeper.

Hendon created one clear chance in the first half after eleven minutes when Liam Brooks was allowed space 8 yards out and gleefully accepted the opportunity to force the ball past Kie Plumley.

Al-Droubi was finally beaten when a Bradshaw corner bounced around the area and fell kindly for Aaron Minhas who poked the ball home.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Beaconsfield dominated possession and territory but struggled to break down an obdurate defence. Al Droubi saved brilliantly from Nathan Minhas who then somehow managed to shoot wide from 5 yards out after good work from Elliott Buchanan.

Minhas had strong claims for a penalty waved away by referee Mr. Callum Fisk, who let virtually anything go, in sharp contrast to last week's official who never saw a challenge he couldn’t penalise.

Hendon defended for their lives, in numbers and denied the home side any space in and around the box. The Rams became increasingly frustrated as the half progressed and as they pressed for the win, almost left themselves open to the ultimate smash and grab.

Beaconsfield were to grateful to on-loan keeper Kie Plumley at the death when he produced flying saves to deny first Rohdell Green and then Dan Matsuzaka from the resulting corner.
