RAMS LOSE OUT TO LEAGUE LEADERS

BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 1 KETTERING TOWN 2

SYCOB's wretched run of home league defeats continued as they were beaten by league leaders Kettering Town though in truth it was hard to believe that 21 places separated the two teams.

Buoyed by a vocal and good natured following Kettering got off to a perfect start on six minutes when Tom Wilment was caught in possession by Dubi Ogbonna and The Poppies centre forward ran on to calmly slot the ball past the stranded Sam Bunting. Six minutes later The Poppies were two goals to the good as a simple ball over the top of The Rams defence was pounced on by the impressive Alfie Taylor who gave Bunting no chance.

SYCOB's first half chance didn't come until the 20th minute when a good, persistent run by Omari Patrick saw him put in a lovely cross but no Rams player was able to connect to it. Kettering's Brett Solkhon put a free kick just wide on 24 minutes whilst eight minutes later following some good build up play by The Poppies a header by Lewis Wilson was cleared off the line by Tom Gant.

If the first half was all Kettering then the majority of the second period belonged to Beaconsfield. Keeper Sam Bunting, Rams man of the match,  made a good save on 55 minutes to deny Solkhon and then just sixty seconds later debutant Julian Owusu bustled though the Kettering defence to set up Lee Thompson who shot home his fourth goal of the season. SYCOB were back in it!

The next 15 minutes saw The Rams press for an equaliser and have a lot of the possession but in truth little penetration other than a 70th minute shot by Elliott Carey which was well saved by Jamie McAlindon. Sam Bunting also made a couple of good saves, particularly in the last minute and though he managed to keep Kettering out his team mates couldn't find a leveller.

At the end of the day, Kettering sat on top of the Central Division whilst SYCOB held bottom place. The table doesn't lie, as the saying goes, but a couple of moral boosting wins will see The Rams back in the mix.
