Rams Man Of The Match: JORDAN AJANLEKOKO
Beaconsfield overcame another potential banana skin to move into the Third Qualifying Round of the Emirates F.A. Cup with victory over F.C. Romania.
In persistent rain the first thirty minutes passed without anything to report on, both sides guilty of poor passing choices and neither testing the others goalkeeper. On the half hour mark, Rams Alex Cathline did round The Wolves keeper Adrian Darabant but his effort lacked power and was cleared off the line. Jerome Eccleston than had an effort dealt with by Darabant whilst on 43 minutes The Rams should have had the opening goal but Reece Yorke’s fine header was (wrongly) ruled out for an infringement. The home side, backed by a noisy good natured following, looked tricky on the break, No.9 Oliver Cleaver in particular, but they rarely threatened Ravan Constable in the visitors goal.
As in the previous round against Walthamstow, Beaconsfield moved up a gear for the second half. On 52 minutes the busy Tony Mendy chased down a back pass that Darabant cannoned off the striker but the keeper was able to recover the situation. Sixty seconds later Mendy was in on a one on one with the FC Romania stopper but his effort was well saved by Darabant. Two minutes later Charlie Losasso slipped a fine ball through to Jordan Ajanlekoko and AJ remained calm as he skipped a challenge and slotted past Darabant to give The Rams the lead.
A couple of free kicks by Losasso that flew narrowly wide of the target sandwiched another good Mendy chance that somehow went begging. On 78 minutes, however, The Rams did get the second goal their attacking play deserved. Good work by Louis Stead saw him feed AJ who sensibly pulled the ball back to Tre Mitford who fired past Darabant much to his and the entire teams delight.
Beaconsfield could and probably should have had more goals as AJ hit the post on 80 minutes and Mendy saw a couple of good chances go begging, an 85th minute one from three yards bravely saved by Darabant.
In the end two goals were enough to see off the spirited FC Romania and put The Rams into the hat for the next round. The three F.A. Cup games this season have seen three two nil victories so let’s hope for a fourth one in the next round.
Come On You Rams!
